There is no aspect of the scientific, technological, economic and cultural development of contemporary society that can do without mathematics: chemistry, physics, engineering, computer science, biology, economics, social sciences, medicine use stable mathematical tools, often very evolved and sophisticated. The volume, which resumes two important cycles of conferences organized by the Tuscan Academy of Sciences and Letters «La Colombaria» between 2018 and 2022, shows how knowledge of reality in its quantitative side is essential for the progress of society.
